UK DREDGING WINS MAINTENANCE DREDGING CONTRACT AT FORTH PORTS
Following an agreement between UK Dredging (UKD) - the dredging arm of Associated British Ports - and Forth Ports, UKD will carry out all maintenance dredging at Forth Ports’ Scottish ports from 2001.
Under the three-year agreement, UKD Marlin - UKD’s trailing suction hopper dredger - will visit the Scottish ports of Dundee, Grangemouth, Leith, Rosyth and Fife on a regular basis. Maintenance dredging at these ports has previously been carried out by Forth Ports’ own dredger, Abbotsgrange.
Gareth Pollit, General Manager, UKD, commented:
“We look forward to working with Forth Ports, for whom we have carried out a number of successful dredging programmes in the past. This agreement will ensure that Forth Ports’ Scottish ports receive a cost-effective and efficient dredging service.”
Captain Jim Simpson, Forth Ports’ Chief Harbour Master, said:
“Our dredger, Abbotsgrange, has given 35 years’ stalwart service. However, the vessel has now reached an age when consideration must be given to her replacement.
“After due deliberation, we decided that a long-term contract with UK Dredging would provide an efficient and cost-effective dredging service which would meet the demands of port management and customers alike. We are looking forward to this new working relationship with UK Dredging.”
