UK DREDGING AWARDED DOCUMENT OF COMPLIANCE
UK Dredging (UKD), the dredging arm of Associated British Ports, has recently been accredited with its ‘Document of Compliance’ well ahead of the mandatory date in July 2002. The ‘Document of Compliance’ is issued by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency - in respect of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code – to ensure that companies comply with objectives including safe practice, establishing safeguards against risk and continuously improving safety with regard to both personnel and the environment.
Vincent Scerri, Safety Manager and Designated Person Ashore for UKD, said:
“Our early compliance with the requirements of the ISM Code, reflects the company’s ceaseless commitment to safety and the protection of the environment.“
Companies which own and operate cargo ships (including dredgers) of 500 gross tonnes are required to achieve certification.
In addition to receiving the ‘Document of Compliance’, each of the vessels within UKD’s fleet must conform with the ISM Code in order to be credited with their ISM ‘Ships Safety Management Certificate’. To date, UKD Marlin and UKD Bluefin, the two largest dredgers in UKD’s fleet, have been accredited with the certificate, with UKD Dolphin and Cherry Sand to follow suit.
