UK DREDGING GOES TO IRELAND
UK Dredging (UKD) recently completed an emergency dredging project at the Port of Drogheda, some 30 miles north of Dublin.
Recent strong south-easterly gales caused a build-up of sand in the approach channel to the Port of Drogheda. Over an 18-day period, UKD Dolphin, a single-pipe trailing suction hopper dredger, removed the excess sand to restore the depth of the channel.
Gareth Pollit, UKD General Manager, said:
“We have dredgers based in South Wales, which can quickly and easily be mobilised for projects in Ireland. Although we have carried out dredging campaigns in Ireland before, this is the first time we have carried out work at Drogheda, and we are pleased to have another satisfied customer.”
Captain Martin Donnelly, Harbour Master, Port of Drogheda, said:
“We were very pleased with UK Dredging’s rapid response to our SOS, and UKD Dolphin was ideally suited to working in the confined channel with tidal constraints. Supervision and liaison on-site was professional, with a ‘no fuss’ approach. It was a job well done.”
