UK DREDGING SCOOPS UP ANOTHER GOOD YEAR
UK Dredging (UKD), Associated British Ports’ (ABP) dredging division based at its South Wales offices in Cardiff, has completed another successful year combining its commitments to ABP ports with third-party works, winning both long-term charters and one-off dredging contracts.
UKD’s ability to provide an efficient, flexible and cost-effective dredging service was boosted in 2003 after taking delivery of its second plough vessel, UKD Sealion. The increased efficiency that this additional vessel has created in meeting ABP’s dredging needs has also strengthened UKD’s position in the contracts market. In its first year of service alone, UKD Sealion has already gained experience in the important offshore market after being awarded an anchor-handling contract in the Morecambe Bay gas fields.
Outside of its commitments to ABP ports, UKD’s vessels have also engaged in dredging operations at a number of UK ports, including Forth Ports, Aberdeen, Tyne, Portsmouth, Workington, and Belfast, together with the Ports of Dun Laoghaire and Cork, and Fenit Harbour in the Republic of Ireland.
Budha Majumdar, ABP Port Director, South Wales Ports, commented:
“UK Dredging continues to satisfy the considerable maintenance-dredging requirement of ABP while establishing itself as a major player in the contracts market. Repeat business from third-party clients is testimony to the efficient and cost-effective service provided by UK Dredging.”
