UKD's Fleet Maintenance
Fleet maintenance is the responsibility of the Technical Manager and his team based in Cardiff, South Wales.
Day-to-day maintenance rests with the Chief Engineers who play a fundamental part in the smooth operation of the fleet. Dry docking, engineering projects and fiscal control all remain with the Technical Manager.
A typical maintenance cycle of one of the trailer vessels will include a major dry dock every two years. This is to maintain her Class certificate and repair all underwater elements not accessible during normal working. Most UKD vessels are operated under a Bureau Veritas (BV) certification.
Maintenance periods are arranged at short notice to suit operational requirements.
Maintenance records and implementation form an integral part of the ISM certification.
Extensive spares are maintained to prevent excessive downtime in the event of necessary repairs.
UKD does not operate a maintenance yard but relies on local subcontractors. The crew carries out a considerable part of the vessels maintenance.
