UK DREDGING TO ACQUIRE A BRAND-NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART DREDGER UK Dredging (UKD), a division of Associated British Ports (ABP), has announced the latest upgrade to its fleet of dredgers, with the order of a new vessel to be constructed by Dutch firm Barkmeijer Shipyards. The agreement – worth in excess of £16 million – was signed on Friday, 30 November, and marks the culmination of a 10-month procurement process.

WELCOME TENTH ANNIVERSARY FILLIP FOR UK DREDGING UK Dredging (UKD), Associated British Ports’ (ABP) dredging arm, is set to upgrade its fleet following the securing of funding to purchase a new dredger that will succeed UKD’s long-serving UKD Dolphin. The announcement comes as UKD celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.

UKD EMPLOYEE SAILS THE ATLANTIC IN HOPE An employee of Cardiff-based UK Dredging (UKD), the dredging division of Associated British Ports (ABP), volunteered to sail across the Atlantic Ocean aboard m.v. Amazon Hope 2, in aid of the Vine Trust, a children’s charity. Craig Fitzgerald, Chief Engineer of the multicat dredging-support vessel UKD Sealion, was granted paid leave while he undertook the journey.

ABP’S SOUTH WALES PORTS REPORT SOLID GROWTH Associated British Ports’ (ABP) South Wales Ports of Cardiff, Barry, Newport, Swansea and Port Talbot performed well in 2005, with cargo volumes nearly 4.5 per cent higher than the previous year’s figures. Growth was driven by a substantial increase in coal and iron ore imports handled at the Ports of Newport and Port Talbot, as well as by new business wins across the region.
